This position is for a paint process engineer in a General Motors vehicle assembly facility. Responsible for the design and/or testing of tooling and equipment and/or planning the manufacturing processes in a designated area of the manufacturing plant. Work is of a technical nature where decisions are made within limits of general practices and procedures, but where supervision is available to handle unusual situations. Occasionally may assign work to small group of employees. Ensure that paint processes are maintained and running effectively for vehicle productionProblem-solve (analyze data, determine root causes, develop implementation plans) and resolve issues which are affecting paint shop quality or throughputSupport implementation of new processes & equipmentProactively identify & pursue opportunities to improve operations by reducing cost, reducing energy usage, improve quality, etc.Support safety of the shop and of operatorsInterface with production/maintenance personnel, plant leadership and others outside of the plant (Manufacturing Engineering, suppliers, etc.) as needed to resolve issues, implement improvements, and communicate status & opportunities, etc.Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or projectAnalyzes product designs for best method of manufactureProposes and evaluates the processes for equipment in assigned areaDirects the design, development, and/or improvement of manufacturing processes for an assigned areaProvides technical support for specific plant operationsCoordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptionsKeeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertiseActively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunitiesSkills & Abilities - RequiredKnowledge of tooling and manufacturing processesKnowledge of paint-related technologies (coatings, corrosion, sealing, etc.)Experience giving presentationsProject management experienceExperience with Microsoft ProjectProject team and leadership experienceHigh level of analytical ability and creativity where problems are unusual and difficultComfortable with technology tools (PCs, Microsoft Office)Oral and written communications skillsHigh level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others Strong work ethic (self-starter, responsible, follow through on assignments)Ability to work with people at all education and experience levelsFlexibility (work hours, moving from one assignment quickly to another as priorities change)Team playerAble to travel College degree with a major in engineering or equivalent training
