The Medical Reception Station (MRS), British Forces Brunei is seeking to appoint a civilian medical practitioner to provide first class primary care in a tropical yet civilised location with amazing travel opportunities.
The MRS is a four doctor military practice that provides a 24 hour primary care service to a mixed civilian and military population of about 2200 including families. In addition it provides a range of services such as dispensing, health visiting, community midwifery, primary care rehabilitation, dental, occupational and aviation medical care via a friendly and diverse 50+ strong primary care team.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with garrison agencies including infantry soldiers, their commanders, aircrew, teachers and Garrison support staff.
A large majority of the patient population are primarily Nepalese-speaking (both Gurkha soldiers and their dependants) and translators are provided to assist.
The successful applicant will be able to work independently, have excellent communication skills and the ability to use their initiative. Candidates will be expected to take part in the out of hours duty doctor rota, however, this is not onerous.
Applicants should possess a broad and current clinical knowledge base. An interest in pre-hospital care, family planning or rehabilitation medicine would be an advantage as would experience in diving or aviation medicals and occupational health.
A minimum of five years practice as a general practitioner responsible for the care of patients and Membership of the Royal College of General Practice is an advantage.
