| MAJOR DUTIES : | | Develop the research activities of the Biotoxin research group by co-ordinating and managing the activities (research and administrative) of a cluster of externally funded biotoxin research projects. | | | | Forming strategic research linkages with research leaders in the area of biotoxin supply, toxicology and bioanalysis. | | | | Developing a personal research plan by managing and undertaking research activities in accordance with the goals of the biotoxin research group. | | | | Sustain a high quality publication record by publishing in REF returnable and presenting at conferences. | | | | Develop research proposals and funding bids in collaboration with others within the Institute and on an international basis. | | | | Negotiate and secure funding contracts in research specialism to support self and other members of the Biotoxin research group. | | | | Within the cluster of research projects, take the lead in setting research objectives and programme of implementation. | | | | Direct, coach and develop research staff, where appropriate. | | | | Ensure that research projects are completed on time and within budget. | | | | Contribute to the work of the School through limited teaching and associated tasks within own research specialism. | | | | Be responsible for practical work where applicable, and advise students on techniques. | | | | Contribute to the School's outreach strategy by developing external links. | | | | Develop links with relevant research groups, industries and external bodies to encourage technology transfer opportunities and create opportunities for future research projects. | | | | Carry out designated administrative duties. |
| ESSENTIAL CRITERIA : | | | | 1. A degree in a biological/biochemical/chemical science. | | | | 2. A PhD completed in biological/biochemical/chemical science. | | | | 3. At least 5 years experience in working in an environment where detection/monitoring of natural contaminants/biotoxins has been a key role. | | | | 4. At least 5 years experience of managing reporting requirements for externally funded research contracts. | | | | 5. At least 5 years experience in developing strategic linkages with academia/research centres. | | | | 6. An in depth knowledge of the global agri-food sector. | | | | 7. A sustained publication record in peer reviewed journals or invited presentations that are REF returnable. | | | | 8. Research interests that are sustainable. | | | | 9. Experience of teaching to under graduate students. | | | | 10. Skills in managing and motivating staff. | | | | 11. A proven track record in managing grants/contracts independently or as a leader of a section in major projects. | | | | 12. Ability to devise, advise on and manage research programmes. | | | | 13. Experience, achievement and growing reputation in the discipline, reflected in relevant national committee memberships and/or involvement in national research events. | | | | 14. Experience of developing research methodologies and devising models, approaches, critiques and methods. | | | | 15. Ability to communicate complex information effectively. | | | | 16. Supervise research projects of undergraduate and post graduate students. | | | | 17. Ability to manage resources. | | | | 18. Demonstrable intellectual ability. | | | | 19. Ability to supervise work of others in research team. |
