| JOB PURPOSE : | | To develop and lead independent lines of research in medicinal chemistry within the School of Pharmacy, and to contribute to relevant collaborative research in the Molecular Therapeutics Research Cluster. To carry out quality teaching in Medicinal/Pharmaceutical Chemistry in the MPharm undergraduate degree course, and to contribute to other relevant teaching programmes. To publish research findings widely in peer-reviewed scientific journals of acknowledged quality and to obtain external research funding, including funding from high quality peer-reviewed sources. To undertake the necessary administrative duties associated with the requirements of the post. |
| Research: | | | | Development of an internationally recognised programme of research in the field of medicinal/pharmaceutical chemistry. | | | | Effective supervision of research staff, where appropriate. | | | | Attraction and effective supervision of postgraduate research students to MPhil and PhD level. | | | | Development of strong collaborative relationships with relevant research groups nationally and internationally. | | | | Publication of research findings widely in peer-reviewed scientific journals of acknowledged quality. | | | | Obtaining national and international research funding, including funding from peer-reviewed sources |
| ESSENTIAL CRITERIA : | | | | 1. PhD in Medicinal/Pharmaceutical/Biological/Organic Chemistry. | | | | 2. Relevant postdoctoral research experience in medicinal/pharmaceutical chemistry. Examples of relevant areas may include (but are not necessarily limited to) synthetic studies that have been carried out in the context of developing structure-biological activity relationships, or in the development of drug candidates. | | | | 3. A sustained and substantive record of publication in quality, peer-reviewed journals, including publications eligible for the UK Research Excellence Framework at higher quality levels, commensurate with stage in career. | | | | 4. Evidence of obtaining significant research funding and of effective postgraduate research supervision. | | | | 5. Ability to make a significant contribution to the teaching of medicinal/pharmaceutical chemistry in the MPharm degree programme, and to other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the School. | | | | 6. Experience of developing and delivering undergraduate teaching programmes. | | | | 7. Experience of administration commensurate with stage in career. | | | | 8. A clear communicator, written and oral. | | | | 9. Able to present research to the wider academic community and non-academic audiences. | | | | 10. Ability to develop, manage and lead original lines of research in medicinal/pharmaceutical chemistry and to contribute to collaborative research projects within the School and University. | | | | 11. A team player with a collegiate approach, able to develop productive internal and external research collaborations. | | | | 12. Motivated to build a reputation for high quality research and teaching within the academic pharmacy community. | | | | 13. Appointments will be made at Reader or Senior Lecturer level dependent upon the research profile of the successful candidate. Exceptional candidates may be considered for appointment at Professorial level. |
