| MAJOR DUTIES : |
| Undertake research activities that will include: literature searching and reviewing, data collection through surveys and/or site visits, spatial analysis using ArcGIS 9.3, liaison with project stakeholders and data holders, quantitative data analysis and critical evaluation and interpretation under the supervision of the PARC Investigators of the study. |
| Present regular progress reports on the project to the research team. |
| Write up results of own work and contribute to the production of research reports and publications. |
| Carry out routine administrative duties as required, e.g. arranging research team meetings. |
| Carry out undergraduate supervision/demonstrating/teaching duties under direction. |
| May contribute to introductory courses, for example, on the use of research methods and equipment. |
| Read academic papers, journals and textbooks to keep abreast of developments. |
| Carry out any other duties designated by a line manager and which fall within the general ambit of the post |
| ESSENTIAL CRITERIA : |
| 1. An upper second class honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject. |
| 2. At least 1 year's relevant research experience. |
| 3. Demonstrated experience in the use of ArcGIS (versions 9.2 onwards), to analyse complex spatial data. |
| 4. Experience of other quantitative research methods and familiarity with SPSS. |
| 5. Ability to capture spatial data in the field. |
| 6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. |
| 7. Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively. |
| 8. Ability to work on own initiative. |
| 9. Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively. |
| 10. Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team. |
| 11. Ability to plan and organise workload to meet standards and deadlines. |
| 12. Willingness to undertake additional training in research methods as required. |
| DESIRABLE CRITERIA : |
| 1. Relevant postgraduate qualification in Public Health, Planning, Geographic Information Science or cognate discipline. |
| 2. Experience of data capture through surveys and site analysis. |
| 3. Experience of the use of mobile GPS for data capture. |
| 4. Experience of writing research reports. |
| 5. Experience of working with statutory agencies and a wide range of research partners. |
| 6. Experience of communicating with and working in inter-disciplinary research team. |
