MAJOR DUTIES :
Research:
 
Development of independent and collaborative research in appropriate aspects of clinical pharmacy.
 
Effective supervision of postgraduate research students to MPhil and PhD level.
 
Development of links with relevant research groups, nationally and internationally.
 
Publishing of research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals of acknowledged quality.
 
Obtain research funding, including funding from peer-reviewed sources.
 
Teaching:
 
Participation in all aspects of teaching and assessment as designated by, or on behalf of, the Head of School.
 
Development of the educational activities of the School in clinical pharmacy and related aspects of the MPharm programme, and other programmes within the School, as required.
 
Contribute to the enhancement of quality teaching within Pharmacy, including accreditation requirements for the MPharm programme, ensuring that course design and delivery comply with the appropriate benchmarks and regulations.
 
Administration/Contribution to the Community:
 
Administrative roles as may be designated by the Head of School.
 
Act as a mentor to research staff, where appropriate.
 
Provide pastoral care for students through the Personal Tutor scheme.
 
Contribute to the School's outreach activities, as required, including undergraduate and postgraduate recruitment.
 
Planning and Organising:
 
Plan and prepare research papers to meet publication deadlines.
 
Prepare research proposals for submission for external funding.
 
Plan and manage own teaching and tutorials as agreed with Head of School.
 
Design/update modules in line with School's education strategy.
 
Resource Management Responsibilities:
 
Appropriate staff/student supervision, e.g., in research projects.
 
Manage own teaching duties.
 
Assist in the development of skills and competence in other staff and students, as appropriate.
 
Manage use of resources for research and teaching, as appropriate and in compliance with School and University policies.
 
Manage research funds as a principal investigator, where required.
 
Internal and External Relationships:
 
Develop internal and external links appropriate to teaching, research and professional activities.
 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA :
 
1. PhD in clinical pharmacy or a closely related discipline.
 
2. Relevant postdoctoral experience in clinical pharmacy, in one or more areas appropriate to the research profile of the School.
 
3. Publication record in quality, peer-reviewed journals, commensurate with stage in career, including publications eligible for the UK Research Excellence Framework at higher quality levels.
 
4. Ability to develop and fund, via research grants and contracts, a high quality research programme in clinical pharmacy.
 
5. Ability to provide effective supervision of doctoral research students.
 
6. Ability to make a significant contribution to the teaching of clinical pharmacy and related aspects of the MPharm degree programme, and to other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the School.
 
7. Experience of administration commensurate with stage in career.
 
8. A clear communicator, written and oral, able to provide effective teaching to tertiary level.
 
9. Able to present research to the wider academic community and non-academic audiences.
 
10. Ability to develop, manage and effectively execute original lines of research in pharmacology and to contribute to collaborative research projects within the School.
 
11. A team player with a collegiate approach, able to develop effective research collaborations.
 
12. Motivated to build a reputation for high quality research and teaching within the academic pharmacy community.
