IT - Solution Designer - Welwyn Gardn City [23/02/2010]

About the role
We are currently recruiting a Solution Designer to be central in the creation of new operating environment for the Tesco fuel retailing business. Tesco currently sells 6bn litres of fuel per annum despite being supported by ageing and inflexible systems. This is an opportunity to be a significant player in the re-engineering of the complete business process and system footprint.
A leading edge software solution has been chosen which is expected to deliver significant benefits from day 1 of the UK implementation. This is a solution which has the potential to be implemented across all the countries in which Tesco operates across the globe.
The successful candidate will be expected to enable the transfer of the current Pay@pump solution operating in UK sites to a solution design which can operate in Alliance sites
Specific deliverables for the role include:
- Understanding of the As Is architecture and solution design and how this can be adapted for Alliance sites
- Designing a definition of the pump protocol which can be used in the To Be design
- Working with Gilbarco, the pump manufacturer for Esso, a To Be solution to enable the pump/OPT to talk to the till
Candidate Profile
About you
First the basics. To succeed, you must combine a degree level (2:1) qualification or equivalent with a sound level of technical programming expertise. You'll need a logical approach to problem solving, and the ability to constructively review solutions proposed by our development teams.
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Have demonstrable track record for delivering technical solutions
- Have the ability to map system design and processes
- Have the Ability to present technical solutions to a non technical audience
- Be able to work across programmes to draw on established expertise to define a solution
- Be able to work with external companies and their nominated suppliers
- Have experience working in the fuel industry, preferably at the Retail end
- Be familiar with till development in retail would be advantageous
