The Standards Assistant will provide organizational, logistical, administrative, co-ordination and other work related services to
assist the work of the Standards team and will be accountable for:
· Supporting the Standard Subunit team in setting and reviewing Fairtrade standards and standard setting methodologies
· Participating in reporting and information update activities
· Contributing to the organization of meetings and travels
Contribute to the preparation, revision, editing and publication of Fairtrade standards and relevant related documents
· Participate in the preparation, revision and editing of presentations, reports, papers and related information
· Organize and co-ordinate necessary translation of documents (consultation papers, draft and final standards, relateddocuments)
· Undertake desk-top research on differing topics for ongoing standard projects and presentations as required
Organization of meetings and travels
· Assist in the preparation, holding, documentation and follow-up of workshops and meetings and of meetings of theStandard Committee
· Assist in the planning, preparation and follow-up as needed of business trips
· Register and check incoming invoices including those for the Standards Committee
Reporting, information and file management
· Assist in the administration and updating specific reporting and documentation systems
· Assist in the administration and updating of information system as it develops
· Update the Fairtrade standards section of the FLO website excluding specific pricing files
· Support consistent filing of all standards related documents and information in an ordered and accessible way
· Contribute to the communication of standard related news within FLO e.V. and to external stakeholders
Other tasks
· Support the Standards Unit Director when needed
· Contribute to the execution of general (office) tasks related to work in standards as they come up

The concept of fair trade has been around for over 40 years according to FINE but a formal labelling scheme didnt get off the ground until the late 1980s. 1988: launch of the first Fairtrade label, Max Havelaar, under the initiative of the Dutch development agency Solidaridad. The first Fairtrade coffee from Mexico was sold into Dutch supermarkets. It was branded "Max Havelaar," after a fictional Dutch character who opposed the exploitation of coffee pickers in Dutch colonies.
