Metallurgy and Welding Discipline Lead [20/02/2010] |

Principal Requirements:
Required to supervise a team of metallurgists, materials engineers and welding engineers within the Ionik Consulting business division of JP Kenny (Caledonia) Ltd.
The holder of this role shall be required to ensure that consultancy services provided by the team are consistently delivered to the highest standard and the individual shall provide colleagues with technical guidance in performing materials and coating selection studies, developing welding procedures and generating design and fabrication specifications for major Oil and Gas industry operating companies.
Responsible for managing the workload of the team and for ensuring that all activities are performed in an effective manner, within schedule and budget
Responsible for mentoring colleagues within the Metallurgy and Welding Group and assisting in the appraisal and training of staff engineers and graduates.
Main Responsibilities:
• Possess a working familiarity with relevant codes and standards that affect welding engineering and materials selection for design purposes; • Provide materials selection expertise based upon knowledge of metallurgy, engineering materials and operating environment; • Provide expertise in welding engineering and the management of welding qualification processes; • Writing, checking and issuing of design documents for purchase of linepipe, valves, coatings and other production equipment; • Perform corrosion rate calculations, failure investigations and fitness for purpose studies to ensure continuing integrity asset management of structures and pressure containing equipment; • Witness on-site procurement, fabrication, testing to assure quality and integrity of items under procurement; • Provide Technical support to JP Kenny Caledonia Ltd and it's parent company Wood Group Engineering; • Assist in the training of graduate engineers. • Correctly adhere to the Company Health, Safety, Environment, & Quality policies; • Implement appropriate levels of reporting and control to provide the information necessary to maximise the profit and return on work undertaken by the Company; • Liaise with Customer(s) personnel to develop discrete workscopes and build a professional working relationship with the Customer(s). • Attend regular meetings with the Ionik Consulting Business Manager to review the progress of projects being managed by the Metallurgy and Welding Group • Contribute to overall company planning and future strategy in conjunction with the IONIK Consulting Business Manager. • Review opportunities for individual skill development through attendance at conferences, courses and seminars; • Supporting other discrete packages / work as may be required on a time-to-time basis; • Assist in business development activities to ensure growth of the Metallurgy and Welding Group.
