The Charitable Trust: The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust is an independent charity that conducts scientific research into Britain's game and other wildlife. We advise farmers and land-owners on improving wildlife habitat and we lobby for agricultural and conservation policies based on science. Additionally the GWCT run courses, conferences and seminars.
Location: Upper Teesdale, County Durham. The appointment is for an initial one year term, commencing 01 April 2009.
Brief Job Description: Funding has been secured for a three year research project to quantify the status of grey partridge in the northern Pennines. The research assistant will assist with the initiation of a radio telemetry study whereby individuals will be caught and fitted with radio collars and subsequent monitoring will be undertaken to establish movements, survival rates and causes of mortality. The successful post holder will also be responsible for the fieldwork associated with a cross fostering trial and all data handling and the preparation of interim reports.
Qualifications/Experience: Applicants should be qualified to a degree level or equivalent in ecology or a conservation based subject. Previous experience in upland ecology and bird surveying will be beneficial.
Enthusiasm and attention to detail are necessary for this post, together with a willingness for early starts during the field season. Good fitness level important. Clean driving licence essential.

Salary: £13,000 - £17,000 pa, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
