JNCC's work on marine protected areas (MPAs) in UK offshore waters is rapidly expanding. JNCC recognise that the effective implementation of MPA work in line with wider sustainable development policy requires close collaboration with international fishing fleets using UK waters to gain acceptance of the aims and objectives of protected sites. Furthermore, development of an MPA network will require input of biological and socio-economic data from fishermen.
We are looking for a person with a good understanding of the fishing industry and excellent data management skills to ensure efficient flow of data between the fishing industry and MPA planners and managers. This post will play an important supporting role developing data collection protocols and ensuring data are presented to the end users in a clear and useable format. This role will contribute to a better understanding of the needs and concerns of fisheries stakeholders in relation to MPAs, and work closely with other JNCC specialist staff to develop appropriate solutions to ensure offshore MPAs are accepted and supported by the national and international fisheries sector.
