The Team
The IT function is led by an IT Director who manages a team of around 100 professionals. Reporting to the IT Director are 6 IT Programme Managers managing Hiscox strategic IT programmes and a portfolio of smaller projects. The Head of Solutions Delivery, works closely with the Programme team to supply development and testing capabilities to projects. An additional functional head manages IT Services. This role reports into the London Market Programme Manager.
The Role
The primary focus for this role is to take on the management of a number of projects within the London Market IT project portfolio. This involves both the management of projects delivering major releases to existing legacy systems as well responsibility for delivery of new systems to benefit the London Market Business teams. The role will require close working with other PMs and BAs within the LM IT team as well as interaction with London Market business change teams, in addition to the IT application and infrastructure services teams. The role will be responsible for the delivery of project management deliverables including project plans, project initiation documents, risk & issue logs, following Hiscox’s project management methodology.
Key Responsibilities
• Build strong productive relationships with the managers and staff within the Business and across IT and with external third parties in order to deliver effective solutions based on a deep understanding of the business drivers for each party.
• Timely delivery to cost based upon agreed objectives to support the business.
• Identify and resolve business, IT and supplier issues in order to ensure that the project can be delivered on time and within budget.
• Work with internal IT staff to manage the production of project deliverables, such as requirements analysis, functional specifications and tested code.
• Management of suppliers to ensure delivery according to agreed objectives.
• Stakeholder management to ensure business buy-in and support, that they are kept updated of the progress of the projects status and that what is delivered meets their needs
• Ensure the project implementation is consistent with the wider programme objectives. Contribute to the project team strategy and mentor other staff members where appropriate.
• Drive the project by leading by example, and motivating all concerned until the project accomplishes its goal.
• Partner with the end users, work with project sponsors and other management to establish progress and direction of the project by achieving goals, reaching targets, solving problems, mitigating risks.
Person Specification
Ideally, you will
• Be a graduate, or of graduate calibre and you will probably have a post graduate qualification in an IT or analytical discipline (i.e., Prince 2, PMI, etc)
• Be able to manage uncertainty, rapid change, ambiguity, surprises, and a less defined environment.
• Experience of working in the Lloyds or wider Insurance markets is preferred and desired, but is not essential as we will train highly skilled candidates who meet most of the other requirements as set out below.
• Manage the project staff by creating an environment conducive to the delivery of the new application in the most cost-effective manner.
• Experience of working as a Project Manager in an environment of multiple projects with challenging timeframes and deliverables.
• Exposure to distributed teams and relationship building with stakeholders who are also not located within the same geographical area.
• Exposure to the full project life cycle, from inception to user acceptance testing and initial live running.
• Have the ability to combine “soft” influencing, persuasion and consultancy skills with “leadership” qualities that will encourage business leaders to positively respond to questions, inquires and requests to meet deadlines Intellect and gravitas to influence and gain credibility with Hiscox business personnel and management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of working with people at all levels within and external to the business.
• Creative, proactive, logical and innovative – you do not accept the status quo.
• Highly results driven, with the energy and determination to succeed in a very fast paced environment where the pace of response and leadership is critical to success .
• Practical experience of planning and resource scheduling within the project process.
• Demonstrate a commitment to quality, service and problem management.
• Have experience of managing supplier relationships and co-ordinating input from contract and third party resources.
