Senior Database Administrator - Shrewsbury  [15/02/2010]


 


Duties:

•Deploy, maintain and enhance all backup, failover and disaster recovery capabilities of the databases as appropriate
•Implement processes and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of UMass’s SQL and Oracle databases
•Take responsibility for database monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning and the 7x24 availability of SQL Server and Oracle databases.
•Lead database development efforts from development through production installation.
•Perform project management tasks as required to support the capacity testing and performance tuning efforts
•Communicate well with users, application specialists, developers, technical infrastructure staff and project management
•Carry out duties in a manner consistent with a complex, diverse, dynamic hardware and software environment that serves a multi-campus university community
•Interact effectively (verbally, written, etc.) with users, vendors and management to ensure the delivery and use of application is consistent with agreed upon project goals
•On-Call support is required and included as part of the compensation

Qualifications:

•Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience) in information systems, computer science or related field
•Minimum of five years demonstrated SQL Server database administration experience
•Solid programming and scripting capabilities
•Extensive experience testing, troubleshooting and tuning SQL Server databases
•Demonstrated ability to manage packages (release updates) and apply security patches
•Familiarity with Microsoft Windows at a systems admin level
•Minimum of five years demonstrated progressive SQL coding experience
•Minimum of five years demonstrated progressive experience tuning SQL databases
•Minimum of seven years database administration experience with the following focus: Solaris, Oracle, Redhat.
•Extensive experience testing, troubleshooting and tuning Oracle 10G databases
•Extensive experience utilizing Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g
•Familiarity with UNIX, Linux and Microsoft Windows at a systems admin level
•Minimum of seven years demonstrated progressive experience coding and PL/SQL
•Minimum of seven years demonstrated progressive experience tuning Oracle databases

Preferred Qualifications:

The University Information Technology Services (UITS) department of the University of Massachusetts (UMass) is seeking talented and motivated professionals to support its operations. UITS is a department of the President’s Office located primarily in Shrewsbury and is responsible for providing central administrative information services to the five campuses and President’s Office of the University of Massachusetts system.
The Senior DBA will provide working and technical leadership and support for the UMass Central Infrastructure. The DBA administers, maintains, develops and implements policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of UMass SQL databases. Implements data models and database designs, data access and table maintenance codes; resolves database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues. The ideal candidate should be capable of installing and maintaining SQL databases in support of packaged applications e.g., Exchange, Share Point, Windows Server, Active Directory.
