Duties:
The Berkshire County Pediatric SANE will provide direct services to child victims of sexual assault/abuse within the setting of the Berkshire County Children’s Advocacy Center. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to provide forensic sexual assault/abuse examinations (including MedScope documentation of the exam, and as appropriate, use of the Massachusetts Pediatric Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kit) for children < 12 years of age. The Pediatric SANE will provide consultation to other multidisciplinary team members regarding the forensic examination interpretation and other medical questions. Additionally, the Pediatric SANE will act as a liaison between the child’s primary care physician and the CAC, and provide medical case management to the child and family in collaboration with other multidisciplinary team members. The Pediatric SANE works within the guidelines set forth by the MDPH Pediatric SANE Protocols. The Pediatric SANE will work closely with collateral services including local hospitals, police, DA’s and other community service providers to ensure that care of child victims is consistent with the standards established by the Pediatric SANE Program protocols. To this end, the Pediatric SANE will provide education to these groups and participate in multidisciplinary forums addressing community response to child sexual abuse. The Pediatric SANE will participate in Pediatric SANE staff meetings. The Pediatric SANE will be supervised by the Pediatric SANE Associate Director.
Qualifications:
The Pediatric SANE must be a licensed Advanced Practice Nurse in the state of Massachusetts in good standing, with a minimum of 5 years nursing experience, and must have successfully completed the MDPH Pediatric SANE Training Curriculum as a MDPH certified Pediatric SANE or must agree to established training standards to meet these requirements. The Pediatric SANE will demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, critical thinking and crisis intervention.
