The Health and Welfare Specialist role is responsible for the oversight of our benefits programs and serves as the subject matter expert. Responsibilities include supporting, analyzing and implementing new benefits programs and procedures. Supporting key initiatives from the corporate strategy team. Developing strong partnerships with both internal and external customers. Researching, trouble shooting and resolving complex benefits issues for Customer Service Representatives. Working with benefits vendors to ensure plans are administered in compliance with our plan design. Developing and facilitating healthcare education, training and information sessions among employees, Line HR and Customer Service Representatives. Core Areas of Responsibility: 1. Lead Contact for Power Generation Business Unit 2. Dental program oversight and subject matter expert 3. Life Insurance program oversight and subject matter expert 4. Retiree Medical Program subject matter expert and support to Retiree Medical Admin team 5. 5500 filing and compliance 6. Atlas Vision Program subject matter expert and program oversight 7. Purchase orders for department 8. Updates to Healthspan Benefits Website 9. Updates to Administrative Plan Summary and Summary Plan Descriptions 10. Lead for Open Enrollment Preparations 11. Employee Communications coordinator 12. Data Mining / Data Requests for Strategy and Vendors 13. Special Projects Competencies 1. Leadership, Teamwork and Time Management skills 2. Understanding of benefit laws and regulations; Industry terminology 3. Advanced knowledge of benefit plan designs, policies, and practices for Health, Dental, Life and Disability Plans 4. Working knowledge of benefit laws including ADA, FMLA, ERISA, COBRA, and HIPPA. 5. Excellent technical writing and editing skills 6. Superior presentation and communication skills 7. Expert level of PC skills (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes and the Internet). Knowledge Requirements 1. HIPAA, Health, Dental, Vision, STD, LTD, FMLA, term life, term AD&D, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), Health Savings Accounts (HSA), Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRA), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), COBRA, and Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD)s. Skills, Education and Experience Requirements 1. Bachelors degree required. Human Resources, Benefits, or Law degree/specialty, strongly preferred 2. Six Sigma, Masters Degree, CEBS, and/or benefits designation desired. 3. Minimum 5 years Group Health & Welfare Benefits and/or Human Resources experience required. Ideal candidate has been working as a Benefits Manager or similar role for 5+ years handling multiple plans/multiple vendors, for a multi-location 1,000+ employee company Superior customer service skills 1. Tact and good judgment in confidential situations. 2. High degree of professionalism and integrity 3. Extensive knowledge of federal plan legislation and regulations. 4. Organizational and project management skills with the ability to pay attention to details. 5. Ability to work with all levels within the organization. 6. Excellent communication skills (oral and written). 7. Strong follow-through. 8. Proactive, anticipates, acts with a sense of urgency, productive. 9. Self-motivated, excellent work ethic with high standards and experienced at delivering expected results on time and within budget. 10. A team player who works well with others.
