- Evaluate/select/set/design protective systems for substation and transmission facilities.
- Perform area protection study for proper coordination for the assigned area using short circuit program.
- Initiate and follow up on relay setting changes.
- Identify relay replacement projects and provide job preparation support.
- Analyze power system operations and transients operations for proper relay performance and determine causes of any incorrect operations.
- Initiate actions to rectify the causes of incorrect operation.
- Document all required operations.
- Assist field personnel for fault analysis.
- Provide protection studies and select protection standards for internal and external driven projects.
- Provide relay setting for all internal and external driven projects that include protection schemes.
- Provide commissioning procedures for new projects.
- Provide technical direction to technicians in properly installing and testing all protective relaying schemes and automatic reclosing equipment.
- Provide protection setup for clearances; review and approve test procedures to energize new equipment.
- Update and maintain relay records and databases.
- Evaluate new technology.
- Assist in the development of protection design standards.
- Assist in the development and instruction of Relay Technician Training Program.
- Work in a Project Management team environment.
- Participate in technical presentation for internal and external conferences.
- Work on special projects and additional duties as directed.
- Prioritize work and be a team member on multiple projects at one time.
- Participate in quality/team committees.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering school.
- Knowledge of power systems, engineering economics, civil engineering, environmental, purchasing and legal regulations preferred.
- Project management, team leadership, contracting skills, and utility business practices knowledge.
- Knowledge of potential and current transformers.
- AC and DC controls, maintenance philosophy and local service knowledge.
- Knowledge of substation construction and maintenance techniques desired.
- Knowledge of station automation and of protection and communication schemes, protection operation and reliability philosophy desired.
- Knowledge of control logic, batteries and 3-phase power systems theory/operation both static and dynamic; short circuit theory/application; motor generation theory/application; reactive compensation theory preferred.
- Knowledge of ANSI, NESC, IEEEI, NEC standards and CADD helpful.
- Demonstrate a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive, team building manner.
- Proficiency with PC, abilities include Microsoft Office suite or equivalent.
- Ability to produce technical reports, analyses, and documentation.
- Years of professional experience in applicable engineering field commensurate with position level.
- Professional Engineer registration preferred.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Travel required.
