Job Objective:
Perform day to day functions of operating glass Forvet, Drill, Polishers and MITRE machines to meet production planning.
Work with maintenance department to oversee preventative maintenance and repairs. The operator is required to inter act with employees on the production floor and at times is required to make decisions about production priorities for their specific equipment.
Responsibilities:
An operator is in charge of operating and maintaining equipment under his charge. Operators are required to make sure that preventative maintenance and repairs are kept up on their equipment. The operator has responsibility for making sure that their equipment is running efficiently, the quality of the product meets standards set by management, production goals set by management are meet and above all that the equipment is run safely. Operators are required at time to perform general maintenance procedures such as changing grinding wheels, changing belts and other general maintenance and cleaning procedures. Operators are expected to setup their equipment and make any changes need to run equipment properly. Operators are expected to trouble shoot general equipment failures and have a general overall working knowledge of the equipment and it's capability. The operator is also expected to work with maintenance on equipment pats inventory.

Responsibilities: This position requires that material including glass be moved from one position/location to another in an effort to expedite the glass/object throughout the plant. Muscular, cardiovascular and upper/lower body manipulation is used to move the glass/object through the glass fabrication process (bending, twisting, and reaching). Gripping, cupping, clamping hand and wrist motions are required to support, carry, and maneuver glass/objects to platform heights of three feet in a manner considered safe for self and others. The on/off-loading of glass from, tables, rolling racks, delivery trucks, or wood crates for eight or more hours daily. Position requires standing and walking on a concrete floor while wearing steel-toed shoes for eight or more hours daily. The "team concept" instituted for shop floor production workers requires each worker to perform different functions on a rotating basis. Therefore, all shop functions required by supervisors are considered essential functions for the job.

Environment: The manufacturing shop is subject to the same general climate conditions of the region (Heat, humidity, etc.). Chemicals, Dust, pollen and other typical airborne particulate matter are present within the atmosphere of the shop floor and may create some odors in the plant. Oldcastle Glass in an effort to provide its employees with a safe and healthy working environment limits exposure to chemicals through written procedures, engineering controls and PPE. While some chemical may pose health risks if not properly used employees are trained on the proper safety equipment and procedures for handling chemicals. While the chemical exposure and odors are under acceptable levels set by OSHA and the WCB, they nevertheless, can be smelled and are handled according to the companies’ hazardous communication program.

Additional Equipment: Computer, glass handling equipment like dollies, crane, pallet jack, glass cups, glass sheet pull tool, tape measure.

Body Movement: Tight gripping, cupping, clamping hand and wrist motions are required to support, carry, and maneuver up to 75 lbs. of objects/glass to platform heights of 3 feet in a manner considered safe for self and others.
Repetitive lifting, bending, reaching and stretching.
Standing and walking on an even surface.

Physical: Ability to lift up to 75 Lbs.
