Partners Research Management exists to facilitate the vitality and success of the research enterprise by both promoting compliance with federal, state and sponsor-specific requirements while serving the operational needs of the Partners research community.
The Research Finance group partners with the Principal Investigators and Research Departments to manage the financial reporting and operating activities through control and review of all research related transactions, including report preparation and distribution, grant and contract billing, receivable management, indirect cost review, and cash management. This team acts as a liaison between Research Finance and the broader Partners Finance organization. | | | General Overview | | | Partners Research Management comprises a number of offices (including Research Finance) to support researchers and entity departments with grant, contracts, finance, systems and licensing. The Research Controller is responsible for the broad administration and direction of the financial processes within Research Finance from a policy and control perspective. The Research Controller will support Research Finance, Grants and Contracts, Operations, Systems, Analytics and Data Integrity with technical expertise, excellent service and process improvement, and will facilitate accurate internal and external reporting of research activity. The position will ensure overall knowledge, understanding and adherence to Research Management guidelines and performance standards, while facilitating team building and interdependence among the groups within Research Management as well as across Partners HealthCare System, Inc. | | | Responsibilities | | | 1. Research Finance Operations ¿ Understand and have the ability to translate business and operational decisions into accounting processes ¿ Broad direction of financial controls, corporate guidelines and performance standards ¿ Ensure the monthly and annual close processes produce accurate financial information for research activity, including underlying assets, liabilities and fund balances
2. Operations Support ¿ Provide excellent customer service to colleagues within Research Finance across Partners Finance ¿ Facilitate education and training regarding financial processes ¿ Support business decisions from a financial perspective
3. Financial Reporting of Research Balances ¿ Analyze and report on the grants receivable and unexpended funds on research grants balances included in the consolidated balance sheet for Partners ¿ Oversee the analysis of debit balances ¿ Prepare the quarterly research reserve analysis and present results to BWH, MGH and Partners Controllers
4. Research and Research Sundry Fund Support ¿ Ensure the adequacy of internal controls supporting research and research sundry funds ¿ Increase understanding and analysis of research activity
5. Policies and Procedures ¿ Enforce adherence to existing Research Management policies and procedures ¿ Continue to develop and revise policies and procedures to improve financial control
6. Indirect supervision/utilization of 3 FTE's

Bachelor¿s degree in Accounting or Finance and CPA required, MBA a plus 2. General knowledge of federal regulations governing sponsored research, including OMB Circular A-110 and A-133, federal cost accounting standards and federal acquisition regulations 3. Minimum 5 years experience in academic medical center finance |
