As part of the Day Service provision at the Robertson Road Resource Centre an exiting opportunity has arisen to work in one the Day service outreach a community projects at Café Connect.
You have experience and an interest in supporting adults to develop greater independence through activities including Information Technology and all aspects of Life Skills. As well as a genuine commitment to work with people who have disability you also
have a knowledge and understanding of the needs and rights of people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour as well as the ability to communicate and understand people with limited communication skills. An SVQ Social Care Level II or equivalent is desirable
We require you to assist clients with personal care needs and assist Day Centre Officers in a variety of activities both at the day service and at the project. You will be contribute to the development of a stimulating programme for each service user to meet individual needs and interests.
The appointment is subject to satisfactory clearance from Disclosure Scotland and the provision of Criminal Records Check from other countries as deemed necessary and where they are available. It is a criminal offence for anyone who is on the Disqualified from working with Children list or disqualified from working with vulnerable adults or the elderly to apply for or continue to working in this position.
Job Purpose
Under guidance by a Day Centre Officer a Care Assistant will support people to meet a range of needs. This work will be carried out both in a group setting and individual support, in a variety of day service settings.
Main Tasks
- Assist service users in all aspects of personal care.
- To adhere to Health & Safety aspects of service users and staff at all times.
- Through working at the café and at the day service to positively support individual and groups of service users in variousactivities e.g. independent living skills, communication, advocacy positive opportunities etc.
- Assist in the preparation of food for sale to the general public
- Write reports and liaise with other professionals as required.
- Carry out any other duties as requested by the manager or depute manager.
Experience / Qualifications / Personal Qualities
Essential Criteria
- Knowledge and understanding of the needs and rights of people with learning disabilities.
- Experience in working with people with a range of disabilities
- Ability to communicate and understand people with limited communication skills
- Good organisational abilities
- Good team member
- Understanding, acceptance and sensitivity
- Comfortable undertaking close personal care
- Ability to prepare food for consumption by others
Desirable Criteria
- Previous work with this service user groupSVQ 11 in Social CareFood Hygiene certificate or intermediate food hygiene certificateExperience of working with people with challenging behaviour
- Experience of working in a community based project
- Basic knowledge of information technology
- Experience of networking with business community
- Knowledge of MAKATON and total communication
- Possession of skills that could be used in working with this service user group
