Biologics Process Technology (BPT) is currently seeking a Process Engineer/Scientist to work at our West Point, PA location. BPT provides technical support and process improvements for the bulk manufacturing processes for biologic products, Culture Media and Buffers, raw materials and sterile supplies.
The incumbent will provides Sterile Supply support including mechanical type equipment, sterile supply business processes, sterilization and washer processes.
Also will support Container Closure Integrity, raw material used in sterile supply, sterile and non-sterile components. Responsible for analytical and engineering studies associated with the development of new products, processes, systems, and facilities.
Provides lead technical support to help develop and execute project plans. Obtains and analyzes relevant data and prepares appropriate reports for communication. Responsibilities are mainly focused on a product, or a single product family and process.
The assigned projects may be broadly defined which require knowledge and independent thinking to create the focus.
Provides contributions to the planning and implementation of Operation's Profit Improvement Program. May be responsible for leading small or large teams to accomplish project goals efficiently.
Primary Activities:
- Applies technical expertise to advance business goals through the application of appropriate technologies.
- As directed, maintains a resident liaison function with Operations, Quality, and Merck Research Laboratories (MRL). Maintains alignment with internal technical personnel regarding products, equipment, and processing techniques.
- Identifies and implements technology-driven productivity improvements. Designs experimental or investigational studies to improve equipment and processes.
- Independently leads, troubleshoots and effectively resolves manufacturing problems. Develops and implements corrective actions to unplanned (atypical) manufacturing events to ensure a consistent and reliable supply of vaccines and sterile products. Participates in or leads large scale (site-wide) investigations.
- Provides contributions to the planning, design, and implementation of segments of new or upgraded process facilities and equipment in a cost effective and timely manner.
- As required, guides technical staff. Participates in recruiting.
- Maintains functional excellence through internal relationships within industry, academia, and professional/technical organizations.
- Prepares and/or provides review and guidance for regulatory filings, process descriptions, atypical process reports, and change requests.
- Supports all quality and safety initiatives.
Qualifications
Education:
- B.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or Chemical or Biological Sciences required.
- M.S./Ph.D. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or Chemical or Biological Sciences preferred.
Required:
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience with B.S./B.A.; minimum 2 years with M.S. or entry level for Ph.D required
- Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills, excellent analytical abilities, established written and verbal communication skills desired.
