MAIN DUTIES
| - Responsible for co-ordinating monthly News rota to cover holidays and weekends
- Collate freelancer invoices for Programme Manager sign off
- Deal with Press Agencies over invoicing
- Coaching Freelance Broadcast Journalists to achieve their full potential
- Oversee community action where relevant and delegate when necessary
- Interview relevant sources and create clips and packages for stories with considerable local relevance
- Write scripts and edit copy
- Take Sky feed rewrite scripts and add cuts
- Compile bulletins ensuring all copy is rewritten hourly or where possible
- Ensure that all clips, interviews and pre-recorded material meets UTV Radio’s broadcasting standards
- Present news bulletins on the hour, headlines and sport on the half hour
- Ensure regular check calls are made
- Maintain good contacts in the local community and ensure the database is kept up to date
- Update Station website a minimum of 3 times a day
- Ensure smooth handover between shifts especially afternoons/overnights for the News Hub
- Forward planning - work on prospects for the following day/week
- Any other duties as appropriate to the role
